Spirit of Shadow is Now on Royal Road!

The first installment in the Black Rain Chronicles series is now available on Royal Road!

Spirit of Shadow was originally released a few years ago as on Amazon; however, I ended up taking it down as I wasn't happy with it, and started writing the Luckborn Series shortly after. Upon further reflection, I decided to give it another shot as I really liked the characters and world I had created, but the book is not quite the same as it was on its first release. A heavy developmental edit has seen some of the character arcs expanded on, the world fleshed out and the scope expanded as well.

The story follows Lance, a servant in the palace at Shadovane. When he begins to hear a voice in the night, he thinks he's losing his mind, but soon realizes he has an uncommon gift that allows him to see into a different world. He falls in with a rebel faction who seeks to undermine and eventually overthrow the crown, but he doesn't want any part of it. As he begins to recall more and more of his childhood, he becomes increasingly convinced the only true remedy for what has befallen him is escape, and formulates a plan to do just that. But he can't hope to accomplish his goals alone, and it becomes his driving focus to convince the rebels to help him succeed. If they can be convinced to leave their home and seek freedom elsewhere, thousands of people might finally be liberated from the tyrannical regime of the Shadow Queen and her aristocratic order, but with the Emperor in Shadovane, failure means certain death.

For those who aren't familiar with Royal Road, it's a platform that allows authors to serialize their work and publish free chapters. New chapters are released Monday through Friday every week at 8am CST. I have also taken the liberty to set up a patreon where you can access chapters up to two weeks in advance of publication on Royal Road. The subscription fee is $5 a month.

An important note: Royal Road does not allow explicit sexual content, but there are some sex scenes in the book. As such, the unabridged version of the story is available on Patreon, but the sexually explicit scenes will not be made available on Royal Road in order to stay compliant with their TOS.
